Lightning Protection System for IT TOWER

Here the standard for fixing the criteria of ligihtning protection systems is NF 17102 / UNE 21186 / NP 4426 "Protection of structures, buildings and open areas using Early Streamer Emission air terminals". Lightning protection components should accomplish EN 50164 (IEC 62561).

Air Termination System:
  1. Early Streamer Emission Lightning Conductor model DAT CONTROLER® PLUS 45 -ESE Air Terminal with a certified protection radius of 63 m. for a height of 6 m. Protection Level LPL I and Advance Time of 45 microseconds, all this according to the standard NF 17102 / UNE 21186 / NP 4426.
  2. The Air Terminal will be fixed using a wall fixing anchorage with a galvanised steel, 6 metres mast and the corresponding adapting piece.
  3. The air terminal shall be at least 2 meters over any other object within its protected radius.
Down-conductor System:
  1. Two down-conductors will be laid through the straightest possible way to ground according to the standards NF 17102 / UNE 21186 / NP 4426.
  2. Down-conductors will be done with tape conductors, that will be fixed with suitable clips separated 0,5m. Tape has larger surface for the same amount of material than cables and therefore has less resistance, less inductance and generates less electric fields.
  3. The down-conductors will be protected against eventual mechanical impacts by a guard tube of 2m length from ground. A lightning event counter will be installed for each Air Terminal.
Earth Termination System:
  1. The resistance of the Lightning Protection grounding, isolated from any other metallic element, must be lower than 10 Ohms (NFC 17102/UNE21186).
  2. Hence, each down-conductor will beprovided with an Earth Termination system formed by 3 copper coated steel electrodes, 2m long.
  3. Once driven into ground they will be bonded with tape conductor. Each Earth Termination will be provided with an inspection pit and a test bonding bar for allowing future measures.
